Bugging cancer - can we turn microbes into medicine?
18:45 - 19:15 (Talk in English)
Microbes are a constant companion of each of us. Many of these microbes, especially the ones causing disease, have fascinating mechanisms to colonize our body. Is it possible to make use of these mechanisms to turn microbes into medicine?

What is natural? And what do little bits of insects have to do with this?
19:30 - 20:00 (Talk in English)
Prof. Oliver Heiri works the Department of Environmental Sciences at the University of Basel. He works on reconstructing past ecosystem processes and environmental change based on natural archives such as lake sediments. The past is the key to the future! Understanding how natural processes and we as humans have influenced ecosystems in the past is essential for understanding how they will react to future stressors such as pollution, or climate and land-use change.

Voices of the body: Experiencing and expressing emotions and sensations
20:15 - 20:45 (Talk in English)
Language and the body are deeply intertwined in many ways. The talk addresses how words cannot be isolated from gesture and other body movements, as well as how our experiences of the world are intimately shaping and shaped by how we express them. The talk demonstrates how linguists study the voices of the body. Authors of this collective talk: Lorenza Mondada, Sofian Bouaouina, Guillaume Gauthier, Elliott Hoey, Hanna Svensson, Burak Tekin
